Medimile connects physicians with shared experiences – peer-to-peer, without hierarchy, in five languages. Together with Julia Holtmann and Sonja Häckel we developed the concept, built the platform and run it on our own infrastructure.

Concept

Mentoring as equals.

Mentoring on Medimile happens voluntarily: physicians with experience in a specific area offer it; physicians with a concrete need reach out. The participants find each other themselves – without institutional assignment, without imposed hierarchy.

The platform handles the matching, keeps the relationship structured, and otherwise steps back. Personal stays personal.

Platform

From profile to evaluation.

Users create a profile with their specialisation, post mentoring listings as mentor or mentee, receive inquiries, and run the selected relationships through structured milestones.

  • Profile & verification – field, experience, optional identity check
  • Listings – offers and requests, searchable by specialisation and region
  • Inquiries – structured first contact with accept or decline
  • Mentoring – real-time chat, shared milestones, scheduling
  • Evaluation – closing feedback and optional Swiss SIWF point credit

Multilingual

Five languages, one platform.

Medimile runs in production in German, French, Italian, Spanish and English. Language switches aren't cosmetic – listings, inquiries, emails and evaluations carry their language through every touchpoint.

When we add a new feature, we update five translation sets in lockstep; a missing key visibly breaks the UI for that locale – and that's the point.

Notifications

At the right time, not all the time.

Database webhooks trigger e-mails and push notifications whenever something relevant happens in a mentoring: a new inquiry, an accept, a milestone, a new chat message.

Per category, users decide whether to get e-mail, push, or nothing at all. Quiet hours shift pushes into the next part of the day instead of swallowing them.

Self-hosting

Full control over data and operations.

We run Medimile on our own Supabase instance via Coolify. Backups, scaling and schemas are on us, not on a cloud vendor – important for data moving along the edges of healthcare practice.

Promotional website

A stage of its own beside the app.

A separate Next.js site accompanies the app: explanatory content, onboarding cues, language routing for multilingual entry points. It lives independently and can be maintained outside the platform release cycle.
